Privacy policy
Last updated 20 October 2026. Covers the website (pumppriceug.com) and the Android app.
In short: no accounts, no names, no phone numbers, no ads, no tracking. Your location is used to show stations near you and to check you're at a station when you post. We don't store where you are or where you've been (the only location we keep is a new station's, when you add one).
No accounts
You don't sign up. The first time you post or confirm a price, your phone gets a random anonymous ID. It's saved only on your phone and isn't linked to your name, number, email or Google account. We use it to apply fair-use limits (such as one post per station every 3 hours) and to stop one phone confirming its own prices.
What we store when you post
When you post or confirm a price, add or rename a station, or report one closed, our database keeps:
- the station, the fuel, the price or suggested name, and the time;
- your anonymous ID;
- how far you were from the station and how precise your GPS was (for example "40 m away, accurate to ±15 m").
We don't store your coordinates. Your phone sends your position with the post so our server can check you're at the station; the check keeps only the distance and accuracy above. The one exception is adding a missing station: its map location is where you were standing when you added it.
Prices and station edits are shown to everyone, without your ID.
Your location
- On the map: your phone uses your location to show the blue dot, zoom to stations near you, sort the Cheapest list by distance and show the "At this station?" card. This happens on your phone and isn't sent to us.
- Posting: as described above, your position is sent to check you're at the station; only the distance is kept.
- Ride mode (Android app): when you turn it on, the app keeps using your location with the screen off so it can alert you when you reach a station. Android shows a "Ride mode is on" notification the whole time. Your location stays on your phone, and ride mode turns itself off after 4 hours or when you tap it off.
You can say no to location. The app then shows prices for all of Kampala, and you can't post.
Kept on your phone
The app saves the last prices it loaded (so it works offline), your anonymous ID, and settings such as paused station cards. Clearing the app's data, or uninstalling it, removes them.
Services we use
- Supabase: hosts our database.
- Cloudflare: hosts the website.
- Google Maps: draws the map. As with any Google map, your phone asks Google for the map around you, so Google receives your IP address and the map area. See Google's privacy policy.
- OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap: the backup map, used when Google's isn't available.
Like any website, these services see your IP address when your phone connects to them. We don't use analytics or advertising services, and we don't sell or share data.
How long we keep it
Price reports and station edits are kept so the app can show price history. They're tied only to an anonymous ID.
Deleting your data
Because nothing identifies you, uninstalling the app or clearing the site's data cuts the link between you and anything you posted. To ask about your data, contact the developer through the email address on PumpPrice UG's Google Play page.
Children
PumpPrice UG is for drivers and riders and isn't aimed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
